15 Fruit and Veg That Are Free From Pesticides – The Clean Fifteen and the Dirty Dozen

Eating organic can be pretty challenging at the best of times! Not only does organic food it cost more to buy, but for some people their nearest organic food store can be miles away and has a very limited selection of produce. Buying organic produce online can help solve this problem and if you register for a weekly delivery of fruit and vegetables you’ll never have the excuse that the shop is too far away or you just didn’t have time to get there. Even then, the fruit and vegetables to be truly organic have to be in season so you might not get the produce that you want. The good news is that some fruit and vegetables have next to no pesticide residue so are perfectly fine to eat straight from the supermarket. Every year, the Environmental Working Group (EWG) ranks supermarket fruits and vegetables by their contamination of pesticides. The ones with the […]

Recent research shows that the risk of having a stroke is decreased by 32 percent for those who drink one cup of coffee or two cups of green tea daily. The report published in  ‘Stroke’ Journal March 2013, surveyed 83,000 men and women of 45 to 74 years in age about how much green tea and coffee they drank. During this study they documented all the deaths from both heart disease and stroke. They then followed up with those surveyed over 13 years and found that the people who had at least one cup of coffee a day had a lowered risk for hemorrhagic stoke (where a blood vessel bursts in the brain and account for 13 percent of strokes) by around 20 percent. Those who drank 2-3 cups of green tea a day had a 14 percent lower risk of stroke than those who did not drink it and those who drank at least four cups […]

The Benefits of Drinking Tea While Fasting

Posted on 1 CommentPosted in Tips, What to Drink, What to Eat

Research shows that that drinking tea at least three times a day is just as beneficial (if not more beneficial) for your health as drinking water. The general consensus for years has been that drinking too much tea dehydrates our body because of the caffeine content, but in actual fact a study in the European Journal of Clinical Nutrition showed that the caffeine levels are not enough to counter the volume of water that we drink with tea. It found that not only does tea replenish our fluid stores the same way that water does but it also has the added heath antioxidant benefits from the flavonoids that can help prevent the risk of heart disease and some cancers. So if you prefer drinking tea rather than anything else whether it ‘is green, black or herbal tea remember you wont need to drink water on top of that to meet your daily hydration needs. Just try […]

Foods That Boost Intermittent Fasting Results

Posted on Leave a commentPosted in What to Eat

While intermittent fasting is meant to be flexible and allow you to enjoy all of your favourite foods when you’re starting out, it’s helpful to know what foods will help stave off hunger and boost your fasting results. Studies have shown that limiting your carbohydrate intake (cereals, grains, bread, rice) and instead eating protein and fats is ideal for optimizing your body’s response to fasting and will therefore boost your weight loss results. It does this (in simple terms) by changing your body into protein and fat burning machine rather than burning sugar for energy. A study in the American Journal of Physiology (1992) looked at the effect of restricting carbohydrates on a group of subjects who fasted intermittently and showed that restriction in carbohydrate intake prior to their fasts changed their glucose metabolism which triggered the fat burning response of fasting earlier into their fasts. So if you’re having difficulty losing weight with intermittent fasting, […]

Intermittent Fasting Versus Dieting

Posted on Leave a commentPosted in How To, What to Eat

As you’ve probably found out by now, diets just don’t work. Plain and simple. Many women might be able to lose weight and keep it off for a while but inevitably they struggle to keep the weight off if the diet is too strict with themselves and ban their favourite foods because they feel constantly hungry, drained and moody. Dieting can lead to bingeing and craving for foods afterwards, and even worse, they can lead to obsession with food and ‘food anxiety’. This can especially happen to females who have a history of fad diets, crash diets and restrictive eating over several months to years. Once this damage is done it can be extremely hard to get rid of, and an they can be left with an unhealthy relationship with food. With intermittent fasting there’s no end point to aim for like with other diets. Dieters usually aim for a goal weight and once […]
